Over the past 10 years, 80% of our products have been converted to renewable raw materials. For products that use chemical raw materials, we pay particular attention to the reusability and recyclability of the products. In cooperation with promising start-ups, we are testing the use of innovative raw materials that are produced exclusively on a plant basis at an early stage.
All materials that accumulate as waste in our production processes are recycled and waste disposal is avoided as far as possible. If waste cannot be recycled for further use in the in-house process, the raw materials are passed on to suitable external recycling partners for further processing.
Over the past 10 years, plastic packaging has been avoided where possible. We are constantly working to further reduce this proportion and follow recommendations or suggestions from our customers for new packaging solutions with which we have already had good experience.
On the basis of a detailed building energy survey, we uncovered weak spots, making energy wastage due to inadequate insulation transparent. In two construction phases, all office roof areas were completely renewed and insulated to current standards. In further construction phases, it is planned to renew windows and exterior walls and to reinforce the insulation.
In 2023, we installed a 400 kW photovoltaic system at our Bassum site. The system has been scaled up so that it will also be possible to use a heat pump to cover the basic heating requirements of our premises in the future.
To align with our customers' needs, we consistently invest in the advancement of our employees. This dual approach not only enhances the company's overall performance but also augments the growth prospects for each individual. The fusion of support and challenges fosters a positive work environment, motivating our team to hone their skills through active participation in training courses and seminars. This commitment not only facilitates personal development but also fosters a sense of long-term alignment and identification with the company.
In fostering a robust corporate culture, we prioritize diversity as a fundamental component. Our commitment is exemplified through effective communication, transparent management structures, and an ongoing enhancement of the work environment. These initiatives collectively aim to cultivate a profound appreciation for intercultural differences and ensure the seamless integration of all team members into a thriving corporate ethos.
KÖGLER consistently relies on renewable raw materials and environmentally friendly packaging in order to do justice to the social change towards more sustainability. For 90 years, sustainability has been at the heart of our actions to ensure that natural and plant-based raw materials will continue to be available to us in the future. We regularly review all our processes for greater sustainability and gradually implement changes in our company. Our aim is to make a measurable contribution to a more sustainable future. “Geit use Stroh in alle Welt,
is et um Twustern god bestellt!”
In 1935, Gustav Kögler and partners from the Meyer-Lüters family founded KÖGLER in Twistringen, a straw processing company for the production of drinking straws. At that time, rye straw was the raw material from which dreams were made in the region. Gustav Kögler specialized in processing the robust rye straw into drinking straws and developed innovative processes for bleaching and dyeing the straws at an early stage. Under the "T-Halm" brand, the colorful straw drinking straws quickly gained worldwide demand. Up to 1,000 home workers produced 200 million straw drinking straws every year. They guaranteed the success of the KÖGLER company for many years. In the 1950s, Gustav Kögler, following the spirit of the times, opted for plastic drinking straws and was one of the most important producers of his time. In the six decades that followed, the straw drinking straw was almost completely forgotten. Plastic products conquered the market in the 1960s and 1970s and were seen as a sign of progress and a modern way of life. In addition to extrusion technology, injection molding technology also became an integral part of production at KÖGLER. The company began to produce household items, stirrers, cheese pickers and tins for toothpicks. From the 1970s onwards, the growing demand from the catering and retail sectors for food, table and room decorations led to increased imports of bamboo, wood and paper products from Asia. Today, almost 90 years after the company was founded, the straw drinking straw is once again the focus of KÖGLER's product range. With the GASTROLINE-GREEN and TRENDLINE-GREEN ranges, KÖGLER offers retailers an attractive product portfolio of environmentally friendly items that are largely made from renewable raw materials.
